dublin newbie

thanks to all the contributers on the forum i have been lurking around for sometime now with out a post but have picked up some great advice. Have been out afew times Killiney, Dalkey, Dun Laoghaire and down as far as Arklow mostly day fishing and the fishing is slow at best a couple of flounder and whiting on the last few outings and a good few blanks. just got a new saltwater beachcaster and am looking for a good spot to give it a go and some tips on some of the following for certain spots this time of year.

hi there welcome to the site,im from the west coast so this is general advice, baits:the best you can get,might cost a few cents extra but worth it,it depends what fish you target but generally fresh mack,good lug/rag,sandeel,squid and your sorted!rigs:two/three hook flappers,pennel rigs,pully rigs,would be the most popular,try making your own,if not, then again buy good quality ones, cheap ones are just that, cheap! casting: I am presuming that you have a fixed spool reel,stick with it!load it with good quality line and you should get good distance,I find 100 yds is loads but i dont really fish beach marks,a lot of fish can be close in so distance is not hugely important.time/tide are very important,get a tide book from your tackle shop and use it to decide best times to fish,night is best,two hours before high tide and two hours back after high tide are best.Thats it,over time you will build up a picture of your favorite marks and what fish like which baits.Buy a diary and record every trip,even the blanks then you can consult it the following years and see the patterns, and the good and bad times for different species!and above all enjoy the fishing

ye have a fixed spool so will do the job. have been losing abit of gear too so was looking into the pully rig you mentioned and looks like they could come in handy on some of the more rougher beaches. will get out this week and give em a go and hopefully have a report for you.
