In my experience (very little, new enough)
Have caught Wrasse while fishing on the bottom with lug, peeler crab, AND fishing about with a float with lug 4 feet below. The float helped lure the Wrasse from the kelp and rocks and hence give me a better chanced at landing them with ease.
I also heard they suffer from sudden changes in depth so the float also helps in this respect.
This was in south kerry off rock and the overall depth of water was about 16 feet approx where the Wrasse were being caught.
Hope this is helps a bit. I far from experienced and im sure the lads may have a lot better advice but it might get ya started in the right direction.
