I'm fairly new to this lark and I have a couple of beach rods but neither is really suitable for spinning. One is called a spinning rod but it's 14ft long and a bit clunky. It's grand for beach casting, but it's a little big for spinning.
I'm looking to get a light rod that I can hold easily and use for spinning and light enough that a half decent fish will give me a bit of a fight on. I don't want to spend too much on it but don't necessarily want tat either.
Any suggestions?

14ft for spinning!! Off the Cliffs of Moher perhaps!

If you want
really light go for a 7-8ft rod and pair it with a reel the size of a Shimano 2500. I just bought an 8ft Shimano Catana BX (10-30g) myself. With the Shimano 2500 the pair weighs around 1lb! You can cast for hours no problem! It should cope with decent fish and it's great fun with mackerel and pollack too. I know it sounds like a toy but don't be fooled by its size and give it a try.

I got the Mike Ladle 11' 2pce Surespin MK11. I use a Shimano Technium 4000fb with it. I have caught Pollock and Mackerel no Bass

at 240gms it would be more tiring holding a cigarette all day than this rod. I would loved to have given the Shad a go with this rod maybe next year

Got an 11ft Cormoran rod myself paired with a 4000 size shimano.
Nice and light, but has plenty of power when needed. Its actually desgined for salmon fishing....need I say anymore
Was great craic fishing for the shad with 6lb braid, just gotta try for a nice bass on it now

Someone took a shakespear ugly stick lite spin back from States for me.
At first I looked it looked like a toy. But once I tried it, it's alot of fun to fish and mackeral feel like sharks.

Yeah. I did say it's 'called' a spinning rod. I've tried holding it but never last very long doing so, hence the thoughts of getting a lighter rod.

For starting off a Shakesphere or Shimano Catana 10ft will do the Job and wont break the bank. Team this up with a shimano 4000 size reel.

i got a 10ft ugly stik lite a while back for 60euro. i havent caught much on it yet but as the name suggests, it is lite/light.
ive used it a few times for spinning but didnt catch anything.
i used it on a pier with a running ledger and a 2oz lead hoping for a few whiting to test it out but only caught 2 doggies. they put some bend on the rod

. i had a shimano exage 4000rb on it and for 120euro in total ive no complaints with either.

Hi Inigo, that time of year again!

, am still busy with the house but will manage to get out if I can, hopefully will be better than last year!, looking forward to seeing that new rod of yours.
Beebub, as you're new to fishing I suggest you get down to your local tackle shop and see what they have in stock that you feel comfortable with, 100 Euro should get you a decent rod to start with( thats if you have 100 Euro

). I wouldn't go buying anything on the net as you might not like it when you actually have it to hand.

Hi,
I recommend the Greys Seaspin. It's a 3PC 11ft and quite light. I have it matched with a Shimano Stradic 5000FI- great combo, can spin away all day.....
