Mullet

I'm going to target the Mullet this year, when should I expect them to show around the Wicklow area and what sort of tactics are best these. From what I have read these are good sport on light gear so would a light spinning rod be enough? Thanks in advance

I have seen a few in the river already and was thinking the same thing. have never caught one myself either. Bread, float and light rod seem to do the trick from what i hear

light spinning rod is fine. i've used fly rods too (abu diplomat 850) with a small mitchell 260 on the back which will keep you busy for a bit.

i haven't see any around eastpoint yet, but i'm ready with me lidl carp rod under the desk when they appear... are lidl having another sale this saturday? yes, they are. where was i?

baits in estuary - maddies i hear, bread very good (mr. brennans recommended). along side trawler tie-ups etc, the old cube of mackerel works wonders. the float, bubble if you can, or freeline if the wind allows. pretty much the watchword is non-invasive, unobtrusive tackle and methods.

Thanks for the replys lads I was also think of getting a decent pair of polarized glasses for the summer, can anybody recommend a pair for fishing. I dont want to spend crazy money on them but I would spend a few quid though.

I know a good little spot in Wicklow for the Mullet, remind me tonight when were out and i'll let you know where.... was planning to have a crack myself, good sport the Mullet

re: glasses - any decent polaroid-capable shades will do really. expect to lose them, or get knocked about about it, so don't spend a fortune. if you can get ones that float, all the better.

i`ve tried a few different colours of glasses but the best by a mile would be one`s with amber lenses.got them for about 14 quid.should be common enough to get hold of.

I got some polarized in lidl last year do the job nicely for about 5euro!
