Rosslare Strand

I may well find myself on Rosslare Strand/ beach this saturday and thought I might bring a rod with me. I've never fished there. Would I be wasting my time if I was there in daylight hours?

Yes,

Being the bank holiday and all that the beach will be busy regardless of weather during the day.

Your best bet would be to fish Rosslare Point, aka the Burrow.
You might even get an early Tope or Hound if you target them 8) .

Great, thanks Danny. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't know the area at all. I'll probably have a couple of young kids in tow which is why I thought the beach might suit me. Is the point/ burrow suitable for young kids?

Thanks again.

Rosslare Point consists of a man made rock belt to counter erosion, which runs around the actual point .

It would be safe on the sea ward side of the point, as the rocks act as a barrier between the sea and the beach, although there is a gap in it about 30 yard long, this is open to the sea and the tide does come in around it to an extent. It is safe to paddle here. Nice sand here and small dunes for playing or for shelter from Westerly's.

The estuary side of it consists of a deep channel and stong currents which is not for paddling or swming.

The rising tide here is your best bet, I wouldnt bother with the fall TBH.
Very strong tidal run here so select your tackle accordingly, your looking at least 6oz grippers.
For tope, a large mack bait 40-50 yards on the sea ward side will be sufficiant distance, a channel runs in close at the bend of point.
For the hounds use big crab baits at any distance on the sea ward side.

Give me a shout when your thinking of fishing it and il fish a session down there a few days before you arrive to see if it is worth your while travelling.

Danny.

Thanks Danny. What's the access like to the end of the Burrow Penninsula. On Google Maps it looks as though the road ends on the opposite side to the sea. Is it a long walk from there to the end? Also low tide at Carnsore Point is 4.45pm, I'm assuming it will be very similar timing here? High tide isn't until midnight. Are you saying in that case, that I'm probably wasting my time any time before, say 9 or 10pm?

This link will give you the Tide time and height for Rosslare for the next week:
http://easytide.com/EasyTide/EasyTide/S ... onLength=7
(Dont foreget to add 1 hour for Day Light Saving time.)

Its a slack enough tide.
If I were fishing there on saturday id aim for an 8pm - 1am.

You can drive to the end of the point, its a rough "road" basically compressed sand and gravel in places, with large pot holes thrown in for good measure!.
Dont park close to the water as the tide can come right up to the road on big tides, park against the fence on the right hand side.

Its only a short walk to the end of the point.

That's great, thanks Danny. Really approceiate the advice. 8pm-1am is not going ot suit me as the winkies will be in bed at that point and I'll be stuck indoors by then.

Am I right, therefore, in assuming that I'd be wasting my time there in the mid-afternoon on Saturday?

Thanks.

Any time spent fishing is time well spent :)

I would give it a bash anyway mate, you never know what could turn up down there!
It will be lovely down there saturday judging by the weather out look.
Bring a packet of sandeels, should help you pull out a few L.S.D.s. @ distance.
