abu Ambassadeur 5500 c3 ct Mag Elite modification

i bought a second hand abu Ambassadeur 5500 c3 ct Mag Elite reel
when it came it had only one magnet fitted so i bought some rare earth magnets(100 of them  )

on the plastic holder for the magnets there is only 2 holes for the magnets

i am wondering if i drilled 4 extra holes so i could fit 6 magnets would it be any help or just a waste of time

if anyone has any ideas a would be grateful, thanks

photo 1 is with only 2 holes as it is now
photo 2 shows where i was thinking of drilling marked in red

2 rare earths will usually offer more than enough braking for any fishing situation, adding more will slow the reel down considerably hence loosing distance.
I only use one in my casting reels on both mono-mag or centre type conversions, if its ok as is thats fine, if its still quite lively go with 2.
Have you cast it as is? if so how was it?

Any chance of a pic of the left hand side endplate?

Cheers.

thank you for the advice,i think i will stick with the 2 magnets and see how i get on
i have cast it a good few time but as i am new to using Multiplier Reels i am not really sure,i have got a lot of birds nest but i am kinda getting out of that now but i am only getting half the distance i am getting with the fixed spool reel
i am not worried about the distance yet,it will all get better with practice

I thought it might of been magged for casting as the mags you show in the pic are not the standard mags those reels ship with.

I may be wrong though! Most likely!! :D

Good luck with it anyway, keep the mags on full and cast slowly and you'll have birdie free sessions!!

yes mc i think you are right, its a centre mag conversion

its the same as the Mag Elite sideplate (bare) with center conversion photo on this website http://homepage.ntlworld.com/christopher.macey/

another question i have is about the way the magnets are put in
should i put them in ++ or +-or--

i saw on 1 site with a reel with 6 magnets they were put in +-+-+-
thanks again for all the help
