pulley problem

yesterday when putting the power in on a big cast the swivel on my pulley rig cut clean through the rig line. the rig body was 60lb. is this a likely occurrance with this rig?? i now have to strip most of my pulley rigs down and remake them with stronger line. i have lost confidence in this rigs casting capabilities know. not impressed. i checked the swivel for sharp edges and the like and it was fine.

what size of swivel do you use and type??

I use berkly size 1/0 and have never had or herd of that happening before,, the other point to ask,, how many times have you reused that rig?

the rig was never used before and it was my first cast with it too. the swivel was a size 6 'Veals' swivel (80lb. breaking strain). i just thought it was a strange thing to happen.

wouldnt the knot b the firsy thing to look at? maybe a loop of line was over lapping.

As was said use a very large swivel ( the one your using is way to small) as this has a more rounded edge. You might also use 80lb line for rig mainline.

Liam i first suspected it was my knot (this being a first) but thankfully it wasn't. i reckon i'll up the rig line and swivel size. a rounded swivel is probably a better idea. the swivel i was using had a diamond eye- maybe it pinched the line?

not the best thing to happen but better it to happen during a cast than when u r just about to land a nice big bass!!

yes! agreed. lets hope there isn't a nice big bass on that rig now!!!

Never happened to me before and I use the pulley regularly.As Donagh suggested use a much bigger swivel.Also(this has happened on another type of rig before)when clipping the line to neaten the knot make sure that you dont snick the mainline with the clippers.

As a regular user of pully rigs I always use a size 2/0 swivel. To use the trace again on an other session try cutting about an inch off the snood above the hook this solves two problems, one it changes the stress point on the body of the trace and two it get rid of any damaged line above the hook caused by gut hooked fish.

But is there a diagram of how this rig is made on the net?
I'd love to try it but am not sure how to build it.
