Hi, Just interested to find out what everybody thought of the Exib, this weekend, as I haven't been to any previous ones???? :?:

i thought it was good but bob moss's lecture was fantastic.though his suggestions did increase my spending a bit. :( really looking forward to next bass session now :D

my first too. have to agree it was a real treat listening to Bob Moss. i learnt a lot. the show itself didn't blow me away though. did pick up a few bits 'n' bobs but i was not impressed with reel/rod prices at all. did see one oe two nice rods though.

myself and IDPearl had a crack at the casting. this was good! one fella in particular really wellied right into it!! madness!!! scared the life out of me.
IDPearl had his p.b. i think too. 140 yards!! haha! he had some good advice and it obviusly paid off. was talking to the secratary of the IFSA about the club. nice fella but i couldn't help feeling like he thought i was a bit mad- virtual sea-angling clubs and the like! all in all a good day.

Bob was quite good alright, gave a bit to think about and to practice on.
The show was pretty good, although the prices weren't the best, left me thinking whether i should go home and buy from the net, but then i got a bit annoyed and haggled. Saw some things on Sat that i liked the look of, went back Sunday and got them at near half price. I think they just wanted to get rid of anything they could before they packed up :D .

Wes,

Did you get your spinning outfit?

Mon Feb 21, 2005 11:33 am

I did indeed :D , got a DAM rod and Okuma Eclipse reel, played around with them before i bought and seemed really good, especially the reel....smooooooth.
I've never used DAM's stuff, but obviously have heard of it.
All of the Abu stuff, of which there wasnt much wasn't cheap by any means, the RT stuff wasnt bad, though.
Whats the concensus on this DAM stuff then?

was there yesterday, i saw bob there and was chattibng to him but i didnt know he was doing a talk, what did he say?

Dam reels

Mon Feb 21, 2005 12:20 pm

I have had a Dam spinning reel, which was very very solid. It took a lot of abuse and never complained. Pity it went for a drink!!! At the show I bought a lovely light spinning rod, Leeda 10' and matched this with a small Tica spinning reel. Tica reels are very popular in the states, never saw them here before. I also bought a rod holder which will hold my 3 piece Beachcaster and spinning rod. All for 55 euros. Great value for a tidy spinning outfit.

I got a nifty rod holder too Ed, solid thing....35 quid and managed to get a carrier bag for the same amount thrown in... :D

Wes,

Never heard of DAM, what size reel did you get?

Mon Feb 21, 2005 2:24 pm

Here's the Veals link to it......Its the model 50.

My buddy bought one of those Leeda spinning rods. 15 to 50 grams if I remember correctly. Very nice for the price. I'm a bit peeved that I didn't get one myself. Just bought a few odds and ends myself. Went there on the Saturday. No as good for haggling as a Sunday.

Hey WEs, did ya pay back in on Sunday or did you just not wash your hand?? :D :D :D 8)

 I was thinking about that alright, but it was a black stamp for Saturday and a red for Sunday. We told them we were there Saturday and the reply was 'so was everyone else'. Couldnt argue.

I taught the angling show was ok as I had my eye on one of those Florida Sun abu 6500 reels and was meant to go on Sunday to see the casting and maybe give it a lash.

Mon Feb 21, 2005 4:35 pm

REALLY... The feckers....... I done that trick last year.... 8) 8) I was thinking of going back on Sunday myself. I'm glad I didn't. I didn't want anything just a browse.

Missed Bob's lecture was it about the surf fishing or fly and plugging for bass.

Mon Feb 21, 2005 4:50 pm

fly fishing and plugging for bass. some of the spots he recommended were a reel eye opener. he seems to pick his spots, often at low tide, and returns to fish the features at the appropriate time in the tide. interesting stuff and a good confidence booster.
