mixed ground rod.

hi. Guys my birthday is comin soon and the misses is lookin to get me a new rod. So i was wonderin if any one had any ideas as to wat kinda rod as i do mixed ground fishing. Cheers lads.:)

i hav a connoflex balance mate and its handles rough ground and also is not bad detectin bites for clean ground for the wee flats and stuff!! its a good all rounder mate!! belfast angling centre has huge range a good rods and i got mine half price from £280 down 2 £138 worth takin a race up mate the guys will sort ya out in there they r spot on and know there stuff mate

the penn surfblaster guvor match is a great rod great detection and can horse a fish if want to

how much do you want to spend.....?

i would recommend giving "rockhopper" a pm and ask for a price on a zziplex primo synchro. one of the best rods i own and well able for mixed ground/big fish.

Anything in the upper market Grey's selection - Apollo Mark 2 (designed for rough ground especially), Nitra or the Platinum if you want splash out

There is mixed ground and mixed ground and it goes down to the definition of mixed ground. For my definition of mixed ground I would call it needing at least 20lb up to maybe 25lb with a 100 % leader knot and where there is no need for a rotten bottom as most casts tackle can be pulled back. In this case I would find the primo or the super cast pm under powered. Currently I use a AA beach and AA big beach. The big beach would be more tippy and needs more room to cast being 14 foot but it absorbs the dives of the mid range fish better than the beach. My AA beach is out and out mixed ground rod and not suitable for clean ground. I'd be happy to take on rough ground with it as it bends nicely against a fish but has a comparitively poor bite detection as it has a tip for bringing bigger fish and copping with big tides.

The AA Big Beach was copied off the Primo Synchro, I would trust a Primo Synchro on any beach fishing for anything, to call it under powered makes me laugh, to compare it as under powered next to the Big Beach would send me histerical stop will ya!!

i dunno mate the primo i have does bend quite alot but it is still powerful.....

i have the primo too and have used from clean beaches to tackle hungery marks, even managed to pull in a double dog in tidal waters, it did it no problems, the reason why it bends so much is because of the action, i find it to a middle tip action, but make no mistake its a powerful user friendly rod

It can be just down to preference but I find my primo to bendy for pulling fish out of snags. It's more when a ray or huss goes to ground that I need a rod that will put constant pressure up until it lifts out of a snag. I use 20lb line with 100 % shock leader so put a good deal of pressure on my rods and will feel a primo lock. I like the primo for clean ground where I can allow it to bend against tide and sand banks to get the fish in.
