the dee..........ballyhornan

i was wonderind if anyone has fished from the breakwater pier
at the Dee, its the one opposite the normal pier. I sometimes
work with comerical divers and have done some work on the
breakwater pier and know its accessable at low water with
waders on from the beach, although you'll be stuck there
till the next low tide, a few of the diver commented on the
fish and lobsters at back side of it. i think it might be worth a
shot.

also thought about ballyhornan beach ( between strngford and
ardglass), i've fished the rocks to the right of the beach, but think
that the beach should throw up surprises, its a good sandy clean
mark in the center, with rocky outcrops at the edges and an island
out front of it. I've fished the back of the island in a boat and caught
cod and ling during the summer.

any info or thoughts on these spots would be great as i'm hoping
to try other marks rather than north coast every session

the breakwater peir i think would be good for doggies, wrasse and pollack, you might get congers about it, you should probably get the same species really but there might be more fish about it.

I'd often wondered about the breakwater myself, nice bit of rough ground and kelp beds. They did have a big gate at the bottom of it for ages, think it's gone now though. The other thing is I've heard of a few people being taken off it by boat when the harbour authorities realised they where on it, might want to check about that first

dont see why they'd take you off it as there's no law against being on it if your not destroying it,
it's the same as fishing a rock mark, maybe could see if a local would would let you use a row boat
to access it in case ya needed to get off in a hurry, its only 50 yrds away. i'll the diving firm to check
it out for me. we were able to drive a digger on to it at low water and kids use it as a diving board
in the summer

we fished it in the summer on a lot of occasions during day and night and no one bothered us. you just walk over to it at low tide in your trainers, no need for the wellie boots. the back of it holds some good wrasse and dogs. we tried for conger but didnt get any. if you want to get flatties fish the town end of it on the flood. there is one gully to the left cast into it useing rag or lug and let nature do the rest. if the fish are in the area they will find the bait i tied an empty coke bottle to 4 foot of string attached to a rock to mark the gully as the tide came in so i could be sure i was hitting the mark on every cast.
