525 magnets keep popping out

Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:49 am

The magnets on my 525 supermag popped out while cleaning.. I know they have to go back in the right polarity to slow the reel NSNS or SNSN

Here’s where the problem starts… when I put the side back on the reel and try move the mag control to fast it stops half way,
have found the reason was the magnets jumping out and attaching themselves together… is it the case that I’m doing something wrong or do I have to glue the magnets in place

if its the case that they need to be glued what glue should i use,

cheers

use a tiny blob of superglue before you put them in. job done.

Hi mark,

Got the glue.. Only question now is the polarity… easy enough to stick them together to find the polarity as the opposite poles attract each other… so when I have them together do I put the first one in its slot then slide the rest away from it then turn the three that’s left around and put the bottom one in and so on,

I need to know this before I stick them in place permanently… I believe NSNS or SNSN is the order they should be placed into the slots.. So could you tell me if my thinking is right about turning over the magnets as I slot them in… or have I lost the plot.

:?

Just a thought but can you not use a very small blob of molten candle wax on the magnet instead of superglue to hold things in place ?

if you put them in first they will all stay in place if the polarity is right. u can then mark them 1 to 4 with a marker or with small pieces of tape. candlewax might work i haven't tried it...

Thanks for your help lads,

I had a check around the sites and found the info I needed.. Then took my other 525 apart to check the NSNS to make sure that I was on the right path.. Also on checking the newer reels 2 extra magnets I found they where placed under / behind the 2 outer most magnets whereas in the slightly older reel they had been put behind the 2 middle magnets,

One of these middle magnets had also jumped and stuck to the other… I have now found out that Penn stopped putting them in the middle because people complained about them sticking to each other… So they now put them on the outer marks,

when i was sure the polarity was right i used the super glue and compared it to my other 525 with mags on and off and its doing the biz,

cheers,
