Rod and reel for plugging

Tue Jan 06, 2009 3:49 pm

I did a little plugging for bass last year but intend to do a lot more of it this year. Can anybody recommend me a good rod and reel suitable for bass plugging?

Mike Ladle Surepin 1010 Pro & Shimano Technium 5000FB. Excellent combination....allows bass to give a great account of themselves.

Would second what Pat says on the rod choice and reel,my friend has both and they are brillant even on smaller fish.Another option is a rod by rhino cant think of the exact name, its the unbreakable one in a 9ft version.
Alot of good rear drag reels out there that arent as dear as the shimano,if your into rear drag however upto recently due to saltwater corrosion i used to use okuma cheapies and just replace them once they would pack up.Like anything you can pay alot to get top gear but there is plenty out there to fit any pocket,i even have my 4 piece daiwa vulcan for over 5years now 60yo yo and its still going strong
Give me a shout before you decide on anything as i know of someone who could give you plenty of advice and won't put you wrong.

Wychwood truespin or Hardy Demon and shimano stradic 4000 or shimano technium 4000 front drag. Would also recommend braid.
