Casting Heavy Leads V. Lighter Leads and Bait Survivability

(This might be one for the casting forum, but here goes)....

I was always useless at physics, so ... when casting the same distance - does a heavy lead fly slower than a lighter one?

By heavy v light , say 6 Oz, compared with 3 Oz.

In other words, if you use a heavier lead and it flies more slowly to get to the same distance, then wouldn't that be a better choice if you're using fragile baits?

if you want bait survivability develop a smooth casting style, choice of lead is preferential

heavier leads tend to fly slower because unless you're a beast you physically cant get the rod(and lead) through the air at the same speed as a lighter weight.

anyway, you'd wreck your back casting very heavy leads to the horizon all the time so as eric says, its easier just to develop a smooth cast.

Wdn't be very knowledgable on the castin side but I would expect it is important to have the correct lead for the rod you are usin if you want to cast smoothly, but hopefully someone can elaborate a little on this.

The answer to your question is fragile baits are better cast with a heavy lead because there is less effort required to bend the rod so the tip speed is much slower and less likely to smash baits.
Try it when your fishing in close it works.
