I hope to get out fishing more next year and like Thomas keep a log for the first time. This year was for me quite poor fishing wise, I didn't get out half as much as previous years and unsurprisingly didn't catch as much or as many species. So for next year more fishing, more fish and hopefully more new species.

This year was my first ever species hunt.. The lads on another site started it off so I said I would give it a go… they found it was too much hassle keeping track of the hunt as they had a lot of other work to do with the site and so they knocked it on the head,
But I found it a great incentive to go after species of fish that I wouldn’t dream of targeting and found that I enjoyed it as much as any other type of fishing,
This year I caught 23 species from the shore with 4 specimens amongst them… I never knew that there was so many species to be had from the shore and even though they stopped the hunt on the other site I’m still thankful to them for setting me off on a very enjoyable trip,
I would like to start this year as I did last with a Bass…
Cant explain the buzz I get when I go after a certain species and finally catch it… But its good

My 1st year at this sea angling lark (hadnt picked up a rod in over 15 years

), and didnt start until March '08, so I'm reasonably pleased to have hit the 30 mark.
Shame I couldnt have got 1 or 2 more species yesterday evening, but thats my lot for this year anyway, however.......maybe my species count is a bit better than I think as my identification isnt always the best........I could have easily had the odd poor cod and thought it to be a pouting

:
Anyhow, I've set a marker down for next year....
30 to beat

ok so.......27 sea out of 37 so far.....cod and red cod are the same
species by the way.
as for the coarse, 27 out of 29......and calling linear carp, fullyscaled mirror carp and mirror carp different
species is splitting hairs the the 10th degree. also skimmer bream and bream are the same species.
not trying to bring you down here, but its not good to be kidding yourself about what species you have caught.
Fri Jan 02, 2009 6:43 pm
mirror carp have patches of scales down the body, linear have a line of scales, leathers have some scales along the back and fullyscaled are a bit like common but scales atre larger, yes they are the same strain, but so are commons.

fair nuff. i do know what they look like by the way, i used to do alot of coarse and pike fishing
