floatation suits

hey all
just wondering if any of ye use floatation suites and would ye recommend them

There is for and against. Options are a 1 piece suit - maybe more suited ( ) to boats. A two piece suit - which seems more popular with shore anglers. Or chest waders and a layered clothing approach. I have used fladen suits a few times and find them good. Another option might be the abu.

and its worth every penny......

i have a mustad 2 piece for the last 4 years or so and has not let me down yet

i would highley reccomend a flotation suit if you fish from rocks or piers esp if you fish alone.

if you get a 2 piece dont ware bottoms on there own if you were unlucky enough to fall in your legs would have more boyancy than your head thus making it very difficult to right yourself

tight lines and dry flotation suits

do ye find any restrictions when casting or moving over rocks

which is better a 2 piece or 1 piece suit

IMO the suits are more restrictive than say chestwaders or waistwaders and a layered system. Having said that guys can cast fine in them. Some of them are exceptionally warm and you have to take this into account if you are walking a long distance. I find the 1 piece more difficult to put on and take off than the two piece. A lot of guys wear the jacket with chestwaders at times if they own a 2 piece. But the most important consideration is def safety.

ive used the imax 2 piece floatation suit during most of my beach fishing sessions and think its an excellent suit. I think they retail around £100. The mustad 4 seasons suit is also good value but wouldnt be as good on the colder days/nights as the imax suit.

The crossflow breathable suit made by Sundridge is great, you dont over heat when walking any distance and i dont find it restricting when casting. They are about €140-00 delivered. Check on E-Bay it will give you all the sizes as well. :D

I got one of these;
http://www.anglersworld.ie/product.asp?P_ID=1179

A steal, for the price. I Wear it as a one-piece, with Daiwa chest waders - no problems at all with casting, nice and snug on the beach no matter what the weather. Also used it during the summer evenings and found it kept me cool, and warm when it needed to. Never sweat in it.

One big advantage (and one of the secondary reasons I bought it) is, it has luminous yellow on the top half, with reflective strips - very difficult to find lately, in flotation suits - most of them are black or darkish orange with very little lumination. There was even a letter in one of this months fishing mags, asking why most suits on the market now were of a dull colour.
AFAIK, if I fall into the sea or get swept out by a wave, I want to be as visible as possible, hence a nice bright suit.

I agree about the dark colours. Fladen do a blue and yellow and the abu one is blue and yellow also. €100 seems a good price for the suit but i dont have an abu so i dont know how good they are.

I hope its the old imax suit you have as the new ones have had a product recall, due to them not having enough bouyancy, and as somone mentioned above the imax are dark grey, not very visible during our winters.

i bought the iceberg one from henery's over two years ago for €120 now they are down to €100 the last time i checked his website. I have fished in it from -5'C without any bother what i would also say to you is get a good pair of gloves and wellies as you will feel the cold there. No point having a lovely warm body, and cold hands and feet. i know its not a big brand name but it is a great buy and great value i'm still wearing it, and it be out tomorrow also. Happy Christmas and new year to all.
