viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19114Besides Kiltys, are there any Irish companies producing shore angling tackle we might consider when out doing our "patriotic duty" (i.e., buying stuff)?

PS: The loss of the Essex beachcaster manufacturing sector a few years ago has me gutted still. We need a resuscitation plan for that one...

They seem to have stopped making Rapalas in Ireland.

At the risk of sounding very unpopular. I would encourage people not to do their "patriotic" duty. We have been ripped of in this country for a long time, perhaps if the tackle shops(and other shops) realise they are losing out to companies in other countries then perhaps they will give us realistic prices.

i agree,we have been ripped off for a long time now,i only buy fishing tackle in ireland if i run short on the day,i get a weakness when i walk in to some of the tackle shops in galway and see their prices, even by buying online and paying the postage its less then half price, maybe its just galway or is it all over ireland?

Again:
"any Irish companies producing shore angling tackle we might consider?"

well, if its produced in ireland its going to be overpriced isnt it? whether its bought here or not
Saying that, i bought a fly rod thats made by the irish trout rod company and its actually very good at a very good price. wouldn't consider it "patriotic duty" to buy things made here, mainly because im english

Perhaps I should rephrase the question, Joe Duffy-style:
"Does anyone know if there's a special device to get coleslaw off sandwiches?"

my fly feel is made in korea or somewhere foriegn ,its an irish flyreel Co reel ????your rod prob made in china

Its funny you should say that as I have one of those 'Irish Fly Reel Co' reels as well, and I've noticed that it is the same reel as the Shakespeare Xcede and definitely not made in Ireland. If I remember correctly they are re-branded by a company based in Galway but certainly not manufactured here, not that there is anything unusual about that.

and whats wrong with someone thinking that? its not as if its that obvious when you hear the name that they aren't made in Ireland?
ok, point out that they aren't made in Ireland but you don't have to make out that the person is stupid for making a perfectly acceptable assumption.
Fri Dec 26, 2008 10:23 pm
Think you got the wrong end of the stick there bud.

My point is that you cant make that assumption these days when you probably could at one point in time. But, not meaning anyone is stupid,

more highlighting the fact that you cant trust the names. Dont feel bad about the Irish Trout rod stuff. You could have bought a hardy reel for several hundred last year thinking it was still made in England. Very few are but lots of people make/made that mistake.
