wrasse identification

Hi all, new to fishing this year and loved the thornbacks but also did quite a bit of rock hopping spinning for mackeral (as a bait supply) and pollack and did a bit of float fishing also. I caught a number of small to medium wrasse on ragworm, I assume they are all ballon wrasse and not cuckoo, however there is a drastic variation of their colouring, perhaps someone could confirm for me that these are both ballon, at present my species count is 19 if one of these happens to be a cuckoo I will hit 20!, not bad for a newcomers first year in the sport.

both ballen. if you look back at our posts from bangor during the summer we have lots of pics of ballen wrasse, corkwing wrasse and goldsinny wrasse. they might help you i.d. them in the future. you gotta love the ballen's, you can catch 20 in one day and no two are the same colour. great wee fish.

that top photo is a goldsinny wrasse ,black spot on the dorsal and at the wrist of the tail ,corkwing has a deeper body and sometimes a dark spot behind the eye .

cuckoos- males are the ones with the colourful blue colour, females are a light brown colour, a bit like a goldsinney.
