Fresh bait on the beara peninsula

Mon Dec 08, 2008 2:59 am

Does anyone know of marks around the Beara peninsula where I might dig or collect bait… ie lug / razor / harbour rag etc,

You needn’t worry about me plundering your picking ground as I will only be there for 2 days and only need a hand full of different bait’s to save me blanking at new marks... my trip is planned for Dec 24th so if anyone is kind enough to help me on this i will be a happy camper,

Pm’s 8)

Cheer’s.

Hi

If you like mucky conditions, the inner estuary from Inch back on one side and Glenbeigh back on the other. Lugowmr, clams, the odd small ragworm, occassion sand eel if you are very lucky and a push net is a good investment... Mud can be awful sticky and deep (!) in places so be warned. I was told bottom of Inch at low water is a good spot for sandeels.

There may be some crabs to collect around Rossbehy under the cliffs but I'm finding them as rare as hens teeth at the moment... I am sure lads living closer to the place will be able to give you better information.

Hi Mann,
try giving paul harris a ring.He runs a b&b called dromgowlane house. Not sure of his number can't find it at the min.If he does'nt put you onto fresh bait he will have loads of good quality frozen stuff. He will also point you in the right direction regarding fishing marks eventhgh things will start to get a bit quiet from now til march or april on the ray and huss front.
Best of luck

Thanks for the info Kieran,

Sounds like the mud will warm me up before I start the fishing… I will be bringing frozen crab / sand eel / mackerel and razor fish but as you will know fresh is sometimes best,

I have great faith in Lug so I will dig a few of them at the mark you told me about and anything else that pops up will be a bonus,

Thanks again.

Marlin man,

I’ve been in contact with Paul Harris … he gave me his number and said to ring him before I go down and he will let me know what fish might be there on the day,
That itself will put me on the right path… I’ve never been to the place but from what I heard about it I’m already looking forward to going back in the summer months, :D :D :D

Thanks for your help,

Mike,
