worst rod ever owned

What's yours?

In my case, has to be that old Essex beachcaster, circa mid-late 1970s. 12 ft, with rubber handles that I think were stolen off the handlebars of a kids bike, and a large ceramic tip ring the diameter of a small toilet seat. the performance was pretty lacklustre too. the rod, as i recall was available in brown and blue.

You used to see a bunch of them being used around Dublin, Wicklow.

I *think they were made in Ireland.

But now - I want one again - for the hell of trying it out and saying i actually caught something with it. Any ideas? Mind you, wouldn't part with more than 25 quid for it, if it's got the original rings and bindings...

an abu enticer when i was 12. picture a SMALL 12 year old trying to cast a heavy 12' rod with a 5oz lead attached. for sure steve(crow74) thought it was hilarious.

and dan, your missing the three best rod manufacturers of all time(i think so anyway) Century, Zziplex and Conoflex.

I have one of those essex rods somewhere uvox, inherited from my old lad. The handle is indeed ridiculous, its as sloppy as hell and the tip was a sight to behold.:-) however, its not the worst rod ever, oh no. That title must go to daiwa and there terrible longbeams. Had both, the old and new version and broke both inside 2 sessions apiece. Rubbish.

Though I have never owned one I hav tired them and the worst rods sold at the moment are anything from emerald beach casters. They have the butt diameter of me leg and must have a central core of lead. Yukk

my first beachcaster by far the worst rod i,ve owned was a silstar 3 piece but saying that i have caught my biggest cod on that rod the think used to double up with a 3 oz weight on it a red and black colour don't know if anybody remembers it around 1996 i think i then followed on to the silstar rod which had a yellow alumnus tip and a Grey and green colour and i had my biggest place on that rod just 3 oz off 4Lbs with the cheapy gear :?:

Would agree on the silstar rod.I had a 15ft ,3 piece what a beast. It used to bend in half when loaded with 4ozs,but having said that i had my biggest cod from youghal on it,8lb 3ozs and my first bass, which started a long running love hate realationship, which is still going strong today.
Oh the memories :( :(

Red & black Silstar?

Where can I get one? I'd like to have a backup kit of a Silstar and an Essex (since I have the perfect multiplier reel for them - the Intrepid Sea Streak).

I have a 20 year old 12 foot silstar which would of be the worst rod I ever owned but for my age when I used it was fine. I still have it in wicklow and it is still in use. Bounces up and down with the mearest of tide runs. I stll say the Emerald rods are light years ahead in crapness

Yeah I certainly do remember that rod, that green and grey Silstar was my first "beachcaster", I think it was called an ET Beach 360 or something like that and it was crap alright. I used to used it with a big old green DAM Quick 180 fixed spool reel. Whilst the Silstar is certainly the worst sea rod I own, I don't think its quite the worst rod in my collection of cheapo tackle, I think that honour goes to my first "fly rod" a Kassnar something or other. Now that was a crap rod and the reel that it was teamed up with was just as bad, one of those plastic Shakespeare fly reels. Needless to say it wasn’t a set up that lent it self to delicately presenting a dry fly and I don't think I ever caught a single fish on it.
