Hi,

That rod will suit perfectly for winter bass fishing mate. Classic bass fishing would be to use a single hook rig, 3 - 4oz sinker and a light rod which you would stand in the surf all day and hold waiting for a bite. Any of the surf beaches along the S or SW coasts suit this style of fishing during the winter months for bass, beach fishing isn't all gazillion euro rods propped up on tirpods catching plam sized falts and undersize whiting from here until next April;)

I don't think you have made a mistake at all.
The seas off the south coast are very calm at the moment with the northerly/northwesterly winds so there isn't much sediment been churned up - and so it is suitable for plugging/lure fishing - but once the southerly/southwesterly return bait fishing will come into its own again. When the water is cloudy with sediment lure fishing will be much more difficult.

Hi Basslover,
as rockhunter says with the way things are down ourway, what you have got is perfect. That rod will do almost anything you ask it to from plugging to dropping a lump of crab 30 yds out on a beach, which is all you will need in some places.
Its also ideal for having a bit of fun with flatties and all those whitting about at the moment as the bite detection will be spot on.All in all its ideal especially if light fishing is your thing, just look at it this way imagine how you would feel if you had spent a couple of hundred euro on a beachcaster that had poor bite detection, and been so heavy you could'nt enjoy the feel of the fish,no rest assured basslover that rod will be loads of fun for you and in time you may want to pursue a standard beachcaster for fishing in the rougher conditions but thats down the road,my advice is enjoy the fight and fish light
