whiting on the west coast?

I was wondering does anyone know if the whiting are in on the west coast in mayo or sligo? And if so where are the best marks?

How ya Doggie

I had whiting at Mullaghmore about a two weeks ago but not in the numbers you get them on the east coast. I don't really know anywhere round Mayo you get them but I'm sure they are there. If you want to travel a bit further go to Teelin in Donegal I've had loads there last winter and some decent size ones too.

They're in Donegal. So I would assume they are in mayo/sligo.

Find a sandy area with some rocks

Hi Doggie

little killary has tons of them from now on... you get them in the sheltered area of the big bays around belmullet, elly, etc. and closer to home, you will find them at rossanrubble on neap tides.

FWIW

Can be odd things at times in the northwest, you'll see quite a bit of variation in sizes classes from year to year. Last year/start of January this year up my end was very poor with the average size well down on 2007 too(had plenty over 30cm two years ago). Its still a bit early mind for the better stamp

Hi Doggie, Have heard recent reports of whiting catches at Lacken, Kilcummin (The Flags) and Enniscrone pier. Good luck!
