Meeting both requirements can be a bit of a challenge particularly in rough conditions. You might want to consider a rod with the option of two tips. One for match conditions where sensitivity is the priority and the other where conditions dictate that a less sensitive tip might be better. Check out the Grauvell range. They tend to be around 14ft but I think that is an advantage, particularly if you're a beginner and want distance.

Price range around 80 to 100 euro i know thats not much but being a student its about all i can scrape together!
That idea about two tips is interesting do many rods have this?? Would it be out of my price range???

grauvell rc beach 13 or 14ft was 150 plus sterling now can get 80. ebay has loads off grauvell rods for sale cheap and brand new. a great tackle shop in ireland is l&g tackle at Ballynure near carrickfergus/larne i got my own from them and a great deal to.

I have the rc beach and find it a joy you can get with twin tips but i got single tip 3 piece rod and its strong in tides but shows every small knock.

as for casting this rod is perfect even a overhead thump puts you out in the fish but even in the surf its perfect.

Also have a few other grauvell rods and reels and never had a problem and have served me well so as a brand they are very good loads off rod for little money

Shakespere have an entry level salt range at the moment with good varietys at reasonable prices if your on a budget. Also maybe some of the daiwa stuff aswell can be reasonably priced and good quality for starting out also ie sandstorm, surfbreaker models. worth a look on ebay maybe however postage can be pricey..

what penn rod is it as they make some poor budget rods like the powerstick or fire tip and if one off them i would go for the shakespeare salt range as better and save you money too. But you could get rc beach and reel cheeper too.

And as for penn fixed spools they make surfmaster reel and the new one is poor dont know why as old model was great , must be made in china now or something.

Let us all know name some people that use penn may be able to advice better.

Another option is second had rod and reel can get a rod that cost hundreds 2 seasons ago for pennies look at ebay even i get a lot off there with no probs.

good luck

Based on my limited experience, I'd say you need to match a rod to your casting style rather than anything else.

That way, you'll get the best out of it.

I have recently bought a 2nd hand Penn Sidewinder. To cast, its an extremely stiff rod, and I'm sure you've just gotta find the right groove with the rod to get the best out of it distance-wise. It feels a bit of a beast in the hand, however it has excellent bite detection, and is an excellent rod when in the tripod, doesnt wobble too much in the wind and I'd say its very stable. It picks up bites from 10cm whiting no problem

The daiwa mega force is the duget rod from daiwa and ok to get started but not great daughter started with one and got one season out off it so wouldn't advice it.

As for the grauvell rod its the entry level rod but you get a hell off a lot for an entry level rod it was veals best seller a year ago couldn't keep it in stock and got great press and won awards in the sea angler its a great rod to try the long rod style off fishing. as for price a few shops are doing combos rod and reel cheaper try these links.

This is my view only iam a mad grauvell fan rod, reel, line, hooks i wouldn't use anything else first grauvell rod i used had me hooked. But best advice is take loads off advice and buy best you can. and get out and enjoy your fishing. good luck all these links will give you more info.
