All,
Heading out again next Sunday and while I appreciate that people don't wanna give their Bass marks away, would appreciate
a rough enough indicator where might be good. I blanked on Ennereilly South beach last weekend so might not go that far next time. Anyones fished the Breaches, in Kilcoole?
Also which more important for Bass - getting the tide right or the fishing closer to dusk/darkness?
cheers again for any tips,advice,etc
Steve

Early morning around first light would be better

if there was a simple answer we would be catching bass every session
personally learn your mark and fish going into dusk and coming into dawn - and coincide that with the ebb and rise - you might have 4 or 5 blanks in there - but at least then you will know if theres any about
and you can start to blame your lures/rigs

With Bass fishing its just as much about when as where. "When" means the age of the moon, the stage of the tide, the time of day and the prevailing weather conditions. It's the combination, rather than any single factor.
Morning is a very good time but definitely not vital. One of my favourite marks will fish any time of day and towards the end of the season, as long as you get the stage of the tide right. It'll also fish on spring or neap tides.
It's getting late for bass on the East coast. You can still catch, but you won't learn as much about tides and times at this time of year. Better to work out the timings at the height of the season when you can generate more reliable data.
Remember to keep a record of your sessions!

Get down further to some of the Wexford beaches if you can.
Wicklow can be hit and miss and you will have better results further south. Worth the extra 30 mins or so in the car.
Tinaberna is a favourite of mine and nearly always produces.
Blackwater etc etc, there are tons of em. Look at a map of Ireland and amy of the mentioned areas there should work.
I find these beaches fish best at night though but they do produce at early morning too.
Dont got blasting baits into the horizion either...! Lob baits 20 yards max.
But as Salty said early morning and before first light until first glimpse of the sun is the best time in my humble opinion on most other Bass marks. This time of year onwards I like a large squid bait on a pennel lobbed into the breakers and a second rod with a rag bait on a 3/0 - 6/0.

Go as far South as you can. Great tides and conditions forecasted for weekend.

I know the feeling

I only started fishing this summer and most of that was trying to catch a bass. spent a bomb on rod reel lures still no joy

dont have a car or job which makes it a lot harder to get down south where you have a better chance of getting bass. I know there are few on this forum who had to wait a long time to catch a bass, so i for one will keep going till i get one, and in the meantime enjoy myself while fishing Bass or no Bass.

Alot of people make this mistake, they buy the best rods, best reels, best lures, best clothing etc then pop along to catch a Bass and wonder why they have had no results. It's not as simple as just turning up with the best of gear, as Teacher above says you have to put in some groundwork and do a bit of homework. It's always handy to make a note of marks at low tide and even if you have never heard of anybody fishing there before give it a go yourself, you'll be surprised. Get a backpack, a small rod and go and explore, good luck.

although i spent a lot of money on rod reel lures, a few on this forum had already told me to start with cheap rod which i did. the newer rod and reel suit me much better as i have to carry my gear alot on public transport, and i have got pollock mackerel and wrasse on it, its just missing one ingredient a bass
