Hey folks!
Congratulations to this nice forum! I read a lot during the last couple of days and now it was time for registering... ;>
Im for studies in Sligo and bought my first beachcasting combo. I made my first tries and cast about 100m without bait. Last time I tried with rig and bait against the wind and I casted it just nearly 50m.
Well, Im a bit disappointed and want to increase my casting abilities. Does anyone live near Sligo and maybe would like to meet me to help me improve my casting skills or for a joint fishing trip? Unfortunately, it appears to be difficult to find like-minded people in Sligo...
Any other tip and hints are very welcome!

btw, my combo is an Abu RX136 (4-6oz) coupled with a 525Mag.
thanks in advance!

Providing you have your reel set up proberly and not over braked with the mags, you would need to post up a vid/youtube to see what you doing? Im in Co Wicklow so not much use to you and Sportscast Ireland meets in Rathoath, Co Meath, the only other option would be the contacting the Ulster Casting Club that might be closer for you, Lee337 of Jonny on here would be the men to contact.Hope this helps.

Thanks mate for this quick answer!!
Unfortunately, thats all far-off because I dont have a car over here.
Im not sure about the reel set up, but I think its more the casting technique...
btw.
Does anybody know whats the function of the knob on the right side next to the drag is? First, I thought its to adjust the drop-weight of the sinker, but twiddling on it doesnt make a difference. And there is no explanation in the manual... ;-( So it seem to be all about adjusting the mags, isn't it?

the only knob on the right just behind the star drag is called the end-float, this is to control the amount of latteral movment for the spool in the cage, if you tighten it down to leave just a slight bit of left to right movment (1-2mm) once done leave it then.
With regard to the mags, is it a round dial or slidy type? they both work in the same way just diff way to control the amount of magnetic braking for the spool, start with it on highest and cast and then work your way back down until you find the line lifting then come back up one click. hope this helps

Thanks, that realy helps!
Today I practised some casts and imho I approached a bit to what it's about.
2 casts were a bit farther than the others and I felt the rod loading for the first time.
It's a slide control for the mags but I cant loosen it more than 6/8 without getting a birdy nest... And I've already added the 2 extra mags from the box.
Two boys asked me to let them cast. First they promised me to know how to cast with the multiplier...

But after watching him holding the rod, I better took it back.
It's a pity that nobody from Sligo seem to read this... ;-(
Regards!

if your unable to attend any of the casting meets or get to areas where casters live, you could try what has been done before, get a video or photos taken while you cast and post them on the ulster casting club website or on the casting forum here, Jonny and Lee do both and paddy and others from Sportscast Ireland on this forum may be able to give you some pointers to get started.

paddyc ment the same, so maybe its the only way...
Would just be fine if there were somethink worth to build on.

Imho, nothing can substitute a personal training!
But thanks a lot!! Probably I'll accept youe advice!!
cheers!
