I'm thinking about switching over to braid for bottom fishing for bass etc from the beach to try to get a little more distance and better bite detection. i'm using a greys bze at the moment with an abu elite. thinkin of switching to a fixed spool reel though. anyone have any ideas on a decent reel or opinions on using braid for this?

why not get yourself some 30 lbs spiderwire from veals £20 for about 300m and load up your abu, its the job great crack on the beach with it,

I use a Shimano Ultegra with 30lb powerpro braid.
Whatever you do fixed spool wise, make sure you get one with a good line lay, so basically don't save too much on the reel or it'll not be up to the job.

Ronan, you won't go far wrong with a front drag Shimano, as you know I sometimes use a Baitrunner with my Bze and have had no problems with it but I reckon a sturdier front drag reel might be a better option. I thought you had a few larger spinning reels that you could pair up with the Bze?

Anyway for the braid I'd go with 30lb Powerpro, its what I use on all my reels and cant fault it.

Hi,
20lb and 30lb power pro is excellent. Make sure you get the best reel you can - will pay for itself in no time especially when using it with braid

Hi
Been talking to some serious match anglers and they are not impressed with braid for a main line - the feeling is that the tension and lack of elasticity gives the fish too much of a warning and that you will get less bites and less hook ups, especially with a fish like bass...
Ties in nicely with what we have seen Art (Cortaz) doing on Clonea and other beaches...

ive started using braid for my close in scratching in comps, its quite useful in the way in the way you can accuratley increase your turn over time, bites are more noticeable, hence you can reel in according to subtle bites, i dont recommend it for power casting though, you could wave goodbye to mr finger, as for my bass fishing im still a fan of mono
