The Doggies are alright most of the time to catch. Some parts i fish they do become a bit scarce around march time for some reason.

they can make a very bad day into a very good one ,love them .

agree there mate, doggies are a great wee fish, not great fighting unless you use light tackle, they always bite and have saved a few blanks for me

We have the same thing going on in North Clare with the huss which are the big doggies but only at night from one of the little known marks along the stretch between Doolin And New Quay any aul rock mark there at night produces plenty of them you need to be v careful and have a good head lamp and be good on your feet better off with a local angler and wear some kind of floatation gear
I used to fish the Shannon Estuary a lot but now that iv moved up to the other end of the county my fishing has been confined to the Burren shore line

I've always loved that a dogfish is a catshark.

i don't care what anyone says, but i think they are cute little things and they have saved me many a blank, i'd be happy to catch loads in a session (beats catching nothing)

whats also great about doggies is that 1 in 20 decides to fight for some strange reason - usually wrapped up in a massive 3 hook flapper rig - but some just get angry - good craic

Some doggie appreciation at last! They save you from a blank and if you've only got a couple of hours in the evening you can rely on getting one,Beautiful skin and patterns on them too.Id love to get a Bull Huss, any around Dublin/Wicklow?

I've only ever caught one doggie from the shore (shows u how little Sea Fishing I've done. LOL).
The one doggie came off the rocks at Portballintrae on a ledgered Sandeel. My previous cast had taken a salmon.
Variety is the spice of life!

Have to disagree with all ye doggie lovers i'm not a big fan of the doggies at all . They have ruined a hopeful bass session many a nite. Can be an awfull nuisance when feeding hard whilst targetting other species. Rarely put up a great scrap either and they taste like crap too. But they do have lovely little eyes alright

i would rather catch nothing, ever again, than catch dogfish
