Pardon my ignorance - but what is this? I caught it at Ennereilly. It's about 4 inches. I thought it was a whiting originally, but it's too broad. Not a pollack either. It has a back three-spined dorsal fin and look at that hooked mouth...
Any ideas?

Looks like a Lesser Weaver to me. If so, read the warnings in the Boat Angling Reports section :!:

he should be happy enough now swimming around off ennereilly again. btw, that's the second one of these things I've caught down there, so take care....

definitely a lesser weaver... there seems to be an increase in catches of them lately with the milder weather..
handle with extreme care or someone else's hands :twisted:

yes its a weaver be very careful with them use pliers or something to remove hook as if you get stung you will be very sore for some time.
