Spot Required in Donegal

Hi All,

I am looking for a pollock and Wrasse mark for a friend. He will be based in Brinlack on the R257. He is new to sea fishing having done a bit as a kid. I am looking for some Macky, pollock & Wrasse spots for him if people don't mind sharing. If you could let me know how the fishing is at the moment I would appreciate it.

mac st john point just outside killybegs easy axcess [park at light house]plenty of wrasse and pollock and they where catching makerel there last month so should be there its not hard to get in killybegs anyway.or the rocks at the back of teelin harbour same species.cheers john

the pollock there are a nice size was fishing from a boat off the point and getting good sized fish!!

St. Johns point is for the tourists. We keep the real locations to ourselves.

Far away from St John's Point, it's up beside Bloody Foreland. Rough rocky kelpy ground. Not rated much for shore fishing, but sometimes I wonder....

Melmore would be the nearest, recognised, nobody's-secret mark, I suppose. Or Fanad Head. Back of Horn Head is a good hike away.

Does he like Mullet, by the way?

Never fished down that direction. But Cruit island in Kincaslagh is not that far from him.

Down that direction you are spoiled for choice with the game angling.

Hi guys im new two sea angling my first time was a month ago at St Johns Point can any of the locals pm me a few spots close by for a try when we were there last time we found a little harbour just through Killybegs we went up past were they make or repair nets the jetty looked to be fairly new is it good any help would be great :D

He is only getting into Angling, so I was hoping to get him onto Wrasse or Pollock. I don't think he would mind a drive, I'll pop any reccommended spots onto a map for him.

Almost any rock mark in Donegal will produce wrasse and pollock.

Countless times people have approached me and told me that i'm fishing in the wrong place, the fishing is better up there (Where everyone goes). The others blank and I end up with very large pollock and wrasse, yet they still say the fishing is better up at the other place :roll:

Obviously you need to stay safe, but there is loadsa coast up in Donegal.

as people are saying, almost any rock marks in Donegal will produce pollock and wrasse. one place i fish seams to be very good for large pollock is down at fanad head, about a mile or so up past portsalon pier, and just fish any rock that you can get onto safely, if you fish in close with a float, or spinning you will get your fish, bottom fishing is also good but the ground your fishing into can in places be fairly rough, so would recommend useing rotton bottoms. hope this helps you....

I have done some fishing at bun an inbhir this year off the rocks,
Pollack and wrasse using Hokkeye feathers as bait.
Tried using sandeels but caught nothing.
Can be a fair bit of seaweed here, have a look at low tide for an idea of where to cast to miss the weed.
Advisable to wear a life jacket when its stormy.

why not try killybegs. loks good ground and you stand a chance of pollack, coalies, macks, mullet, congers and doggies
