Hi,
I'm going to Wexford later today to target smoothhound.
I've often caught really small ones fairly close in.
Is distance required for the larger ones?
Regards,

Hi John,
Obviously depends where you're fishing, but in the traditional Wexford smoothound haunts, my biggest fish have come at middle distance. Call it a good lob.

I find that when there is a chop on the water they tend to be a bit further out. When it is dead calm can be taken in closer. Had two 5+ last night at max distance for me into a wind. Only dogs caught closer.
