I'll be staying in ballyvaughan for a week at the start of july with the other half and was just wondering how the fishing is around that neck of the woods , I hope to have a crack at some huss and maybe tope if thats a realistic option , I dont suppose anybody would like to divulge a few marks that i can try on the odd evening session whilst i leave Helen in the house minding the dogs
Also wrasse hot spots that Helen can fish would be handy ,though after getting her to climb down clougher head in kerry last year she might be so keen
Pms will be kept to myself and any fishy photos I get will not show marks

The only place I know of 'round there that has produced tope is Newquay. Haven't targeted them myself but they've definitely been taken there (big too). There's a very fast rip running through a channel that's hard to hold bottom, even with 6oz grip and it's snaggy in close. Not always easy find 'em there either - bit of hit 'n miss. Can give you detailed directions to the mark if interested...
For other species, the only other marks closeby that I've fished are around Black Head (and I personally think it's a bit overrated). It's ok if you want to target wrasse and pollack in close. Beyond the rough and onto a clean sandy bottom, I've only taken the odd ray, dogs and some flatties. Never taken any huss there :( .
Other may have more experience in the area and point you to other marks.
Good luck with it  .

well ronald
the fishing at a lot of those marks i mentioned has gone quiet recently
plenty of effort for the tope but no reports yet from those channels
maybe it will all come good by the time you get down to ballyvaughan
on one of the beach marks nearby was where i got the 4.5lb seatrout!

oh yeah, meant to say.. Monks bar in ballyvaughan (past the pier) do very good pints and food, (well they did 10yrs ago and i haven't heard any different since)
and for tackle, there is a shop in fanore (beside the post office) and they have a good stock of terminal gear and frozen baits

I have heard people talking about a good Tope spot on one of the peninsulas between Oranmore and Clarinbridge. Apparently theres a couple of deep water marks close to shore.
