Bass Ban - Bailifs

Mon Jun 09, 2008 9:33 am

Suppose this question is like asking, 'Have you seen many Garda check points on a bank holiday weekend'!.

Has anyone seen the bailifs on your local beaches during the bass ban?

I'm presuming they would be more visable during the ban on beaches? For the record I've seen them 3-4 times on my local beaches.

Yes, there were fisheries officers around the North Wexford venues just after the closed season began.

I presume alot of anglers here will not have encountered them as they would'nt be hitting their bass marks during the BAN.

But out side of the Ban on my marks I havn't seen one in 4 years.

Are they easily recognisable? Do they wear anything distinctive like gardi? Or do they go incognito?

They have eyes in the backs of their heads and ears close to the ground. ;)

Also, their vehicles often identify them as RFB.

I'm afraid I haven't seen anyone like that recently.

i was hoping to hear that there have been lots of sighting of bailifs on our beaches.

u dont have to fishing for bass to be on a beach to see bailifs, the ban wouldnt stop you walking, collecting bait, etc on bass beaches

i only know them from talking to them and from the sign on their jeep/car, they dress casually which makes sense

in fairness they are visible in my area recently

Ive been chasing smoothies all over the wexford coastline the last 3 weeks and hav'nt come across anyone from the RFB.

fishing for more than 20 years now between Dublin abd Wexford and have never once seen one

nevermind bass i have only been approched only twice about fishing once in the river mourne in Newtownstewart and on the river Moy outside Foxford, its not just bass fishing that the lack of bailifs affects.

Same here, unfortunately. When challenged most are replying that they are releasing their catch and don't see themselves as breaking the ban. Am aware of a 9.5lber taken last week which was passed onto a local charity.
