Just wondering if anyone has had any brainwaves re sliders. that is to say fishin something on bottom and attaching on a slider with a snap link. lookin for tips or if anyone has encountered a spcific problem that it could save me encountering next time I use one. I'd use four foot of ton mono, bullet, pear shaped float and a snap link on top. on bottom I'd jus use a swivel and attach a short length of 10lb with a 6 or 4? any improvements could be made?
Cheers, hugh

but chris I'v another secret tactic for the bottom fishin which is going to make you kerry lads feel like ye had a bad day in fitzgerald park!

i see we were talking to the same person concerning secret tactics. do you think the gars will show for the comp? a grip lead is essential for the dropper otherwise it just torments. whats the ton mono about

Hugh, I had a couple of hours on fenit yesterday seeing what the tide will be like for the comp and the answer is that it will be running fairly hard. I recon the best tactic would be to chuck a 5oz gripper with a single hook trace attached 100 yards and put a 2 hook slider down the line which has a large cigar float on top and a 2oz lead on the bottom. Waste of time putting an ordinary slider down as the tide will bring the hook/s straight to the surface. Switch between 2 on the slider and 1 on the botom depending on what is happening.
Even tried the ventry rig and the same thing happened.
We have to make the most of this comp lads while Eugene is away :) .

did you try using a weight on the slider like swan shot[i think thats what its called] did the 2oz not just drag the float under? ya we might have to sponsor a holiday for eug more often

If you get an 8 inch cigar float (It will float about 4 oz's) then the float will not be dragged under. All I had yesterday was a 2oz, a 1oz might do. tried some swan shot but did not have alot with me. More swan shot definately worth a try.
Could not believe how fast the tide moves through there on the going, tis a bigger tide and all in two weeks time. Hopefully we will get some nice weather for the comp. He rarely misses a comp, has a good laugh when he told he that his missus had booked a holiday that clashed with two comps. Just the break we needed.

our only hope is that the weather is awful otherwise were going to need our polish phrasebooks. last time i fished the summer comp i drew peg 1 thought i was sorted then realised there was no water well 3ft deep. did you try for macks yesterday?

Didn't try off the pier but there were about a dozen people trying, saw a couple come in.

forgot bout that rip. last slider I'd on used 20gram bullet but might have to upgrade it so it fishes right. a lot will depend on weather your fishin out or in with hw round 3ish.
did you say you got gars john? havn't seen any bout yet? the numbers just dont seem to be there? We really should do some deal with the harbour coomissioners cause the pier will be lethal if its busy-7oz lead, 50lb braid and a high swing all the way!

Did not get any gars. Was not rigged up properly at the start for the rip that was there. Have not heard of many been caught. Hopefully weather will be calm on the day. It would be hard to stop people fishing the pier. Best option is not to fish it at all. There is work going on at the pier at the moment as wel which takes up at least a dozen pegs, add maybe another 20 macko bashers. I recon full combat gear to dodge those leads and feathers.
Might not bother fishing with the club next year with these pier comps. Don't know anyone that likes them. Waterville is a cracking club at the moment, really enjoying the comps. Good mix of anglers there aswell.

at least it wont be snowing-remember last comp. I'd great crack coming mountain road from cork to it. the pier isn't a bad mark in june, like plenty variety and bit of imagination might win the day-but why not 8am to twelve? it'd be different and I know with hangovers its hard to get people out that early but for one comp it could be interesting!
I wouldn't be late for it anyway John!
and john, just as well the vile have good mix of anglers cause some of the anglers are very mixed-------------aaaaa--
