Hey all,
With the bass ban well and truly upon us I am turning my attention to one of my target species for the year- namely rays :D
Now I know nothing about tactics etc for them so I have a couple of quick questions for those of ye in the know
Best Rigs? Snood size? Line B/S?
Best hook size?
Best bait?
Best Conditions? HW or LW ?? Calm water or choppy?
What kinda ground? sandt clean / mixed / rough??
Any marks in my location (Dungarvan) ??
:D
Know of one by the lighthouse but this is old info so i'm not too sure of its recent performance.
Cheers guys
John.

Best Rigs? anything that keeps the bait hard on the bottom
Snood size?depends on fish size..small fish 20lbs...bigger fish with chace of huss etc....30lbs
Line B/S? mainline i presume? same as any other fishing...ie depends mostly on the type of ground
Best hook size?again depends on size of fish anything between 1/0-4/0
Best bait? mackerel...frozen often better than fresh...cocktail with squid and lug for better results
Best Conditions? HW or LW ?? Calm water or choppy? depends on the venue...id prefer a calm summers evening.....
What kinda ground? sandt clean / mixed / rough?? clean or mixed with patches of sand/mud......defo not kelp beds....
hope this helps.....

Normally its June onwards to October.
Channel Ballinacourty, but I admit I havn't caught one there and all the info is old, but the odd thornback was caught if you can get past the doggies.
Farnastocki at the back of Helvic head, casting straight out from the rock.
Ballyquinn East on the very east side from low water up at dusk.
