I arrived at a rock mark in Bantry bay about an hour before dark to catch a few mackerel for some bait. When I was rigging up my rod I heard a splash in the water and thought that the mackerel were shoaling on the surface as they had been last week. When I looked out at the water about 80 yards from the shore I saw a fish of about 2.5 feet long which was very close to the shape of a pike,it jumped about 2 feet in the air and glided over the water for about 10 feet,it did this about 8 times in a straight line.It all happened in about 6 seconds so I didn't get time to get a good look at it. Has anyone got any idea of what it could have been?

2.5 feet would be a mighty Gar. How's about a stray Barracuda? :!:

Its body was a bit deeper than a garfish, unless it was a very big fat one.

I was flyfishing a rock mark the other day near Fanore and seen a few of these things jumping up out of the water and threw the fly in the direction of these fish but it was getting dark and my friend was packing up to go home but I will head out to this mark tomorrow eve and try for them again.
Definately not a garfish oh yeah I had a great evening fishing there but couldnt be bothered reporting it as you have to one of the lads or put up pics for people to comment on your great days fishing.
