humor me and my delusions but does anyone have a right name for the unhooky thing - now i know what a disgorger is before i get the replies
the unhooky thing is designed for flats - and ive been getting strange looks on the east coast when i mention it - its essentially just a straight piece of wire with a handle and a small ~ 1cm hooked head
its ideal for going for the hook in flats
from behind the gill covers insert said unhooky thing and grab the line out the mouth
then bring the line back through the mouth and gill cover and a light tug should release the hook
then place the hook on the unhooky thing by going through the mouth again and out the back of the gill covers
and then bring the hook out through the mouth without destroying the gills or any of the other machinery

I know the thing you are talking about. You have been going into the wrong shops. A crochet needle is what you are looking for. Seen 2 lads using them last weekend. They were using them as you described above.
Must get one myself. A handy tip is to put the smallest bit of cork over the hook point when pulling the hook back through again.

a Tbar is too big to stick down the mouth of small flatties.
the yolk i use is a bait needle with a 180 degree bend in the bottom 6mm, great for getting the line through the gill cover and extracting the hook out the mouth

a pair of scissors and a new hook sounds quicker and less traumatic for both the fish and angler  and you wont get seen comming out of a wool shop by your mates
