Flattie Rigs

Just wondering what our your most productive rigs for flatties. I generally use 3 hook flappers with about 12''-16'' of a snood. I have plenty of beads on there with a size 2 hook.
I think I was over filling the hook with bait and sometimes not casting far enough.

Do you find the more bling the better or the opposite works?

beads can work on occasions but i still stand by using plain rigs all the way, a small floaty bead can work a treat on some venues during slack times giving the bait a bit of extra movement, while on other venues wheres there a bit of run you can dispense with this as the tide will give you all the movement you need. as regards to snood length, this is very weather dependent from my experience, on calm days 3 footers work well while on choppier days long snoods will get lifted off the bottom to much, an 18inch length will out fish them by far as it keeps the bait closer to the bottom where the fish are feeding during these conditions.
size 2's are grand when the bigger fish are on the feed, on my locals venues if i didn't use 6's or 4's i'd probably blank most of the time, a 20cm fish is a whopper   . dont worry about casting out to the horizon, most of the time on steep beaches flounders work along the backwash of the waves, an ebbing tide really works best, other places seem to have loads of dabs around the 20-40 yard range, unless theres a feature like a bank, channel, or mussel bed flats usually arnt further out than 60 yards

cheers eric for getting back to me.
I found this on saturday night. I think I had far to much beads on the rigs but being a stubborn ole git i stuck with it and the end result was no fish.
Thanks for all the advise and tips. Going to tie some plain rigs up for the future.
What size of hook would you go with usually?

Two hook flapper for me, (no need to be greedy lads :P ) with a couple of tiny luminous beads and one or two red beads above the hook on the hooklength, half a ragworm threaded onto the hook and the jobs a good'in :)

IMO when it comes to bling, the more the better with flatties. Another good wee attractant to put inbetween two beads are these little plastic spinning blades, kind of an ovaly shape and holographic sort of in the way they actually look i.e the colours. Can be deadly when flattie fishing.

this is what works for me... its simple

small hooks(size 4-2) with a sliver of fish bait or lug worm tipped with a fish bait, snood lengths have never bothered me as i have caught on 6" - 12" snoods.. i dont think it matters (others will argue different)

thats what works for me..

flyers are good too
