Just wondering how the members feel the shore fishing of today compares to say 10 years ago:
For me I'm finding the size of the fish have got smaller, there's no where near as many flats about but there's still plenty of coalies to keep the rod bouncing.
The season has definitely shifted on the co.down coast too, on the 5th May last year I went onto Carlignford lough with the fly rod looking for Sea Trout and surprisingly managed a dozen Mackerel  .
The mullet are still in abundance and Bass are showing more and more every year.
Skate and spurs have almost become extinct on the down/louth coast line where they used to shoal up and spawn, no doubt from over fishing.

Only came back to the sea a few years ago so cant compare with 10 years but for me this year has seen a lot more flats and less coalies.
