Story?
Anyone got any info on bass, flats, white trout, ray to be had in the inner harbour. Like I'm talkin little island, fota, carrig, glashaboy, blackrock, mahon-all them kinda places. I'v had bass from little island direction but nothing spectacular in size or number. there must be savage feeding in upper harbour-need I mention the rag!
any info, or half info you wish to pass on would be treated with greatest of respect. and those of you know me know I'm not a raping fishmonger either.
I'v a particular interest in the island direction, its a nut just waiting to be cracked but you'd a be a lifetime gettin to all the marks and prob never figure out best tides etc.
anyways, just said I'd leave it wit ye. thanks again,
hugh

Hi Hugh,

when in cork I'm usually based around glanmire and have often had the same thoughts as you, I've tried fishing around fota on some of the mud flats and down by carrigtwohill dump but all I ever got was strange looks from the natives and lots of crabs. Browns Island even makes it to the shore marks guide, but I've never seen any fish there, although it looks a good spot for flatties http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/shor ... arbour.htm

i know there are sea trout in the glanmire estuary, one of the yokels got caught netting them not too long ago, i used to fly fish for them 15 years ago but then the pollution seemed to wipe out much of the brown trout there, but its got a lot cleaner of late.

Seems all the fish are on the west side of the inner harbour , but would love to hear to the contrary

try the Douglas estuary and on mahon golf course the old railway line between blackrock and rochestown behind mahon point a place called the black bridge caught bass there many a time spinning only to many snags to ground fish have tried float fishing once or twice to no success.
