Species identification ?!

Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:36 pm

Hi all,

Caught this little brute  off Balscadden rocks last night, havent a clue what it is, checked the "species guide" on this site to no avail. If its not on there, perhaps a mod can add it.... If it is on there, well I'm sorry for being so stupid

Anybody caught one of these or know what it is?

It took squid if that helps

'orrible little thing, what size do they grow to?

looked like that alright, but only had one short spine each side of the gills not two ?!

the spines look quite long for the size of fish, possibly making it a long spined sea scorpion , normally the short spined version has stumpier spines in relation to the size of the fish .

Youre right in that we should probably list all the little buggers as seperate species whereas at the moment it is all covered by one entry: -

anyone feel up to doing up a few reports, mainly around identification?
