hi everybody, joined a club recently and have readthe beginners guide to competition fishing, in the section on rigs he talks about a 2 hook clipped and attaching a flier to fish the suds, was wondering what was meant by the flier bit and how its attached

a flier is basically a line that is clipped onto the line after a 2 hook rig is cast out, i.e.
after the rig is cast out, with the use of a snap swivel or a mustad split ring(snap swivel more reliable), a length of line with a running ledger rig attached is then tossed into the suds, the flier can freely move down the mainline, this is usually used with small weights and small hooks, and can be quite successful in catching flatties..

Making your own is the way to go alright. I've also made up a few with a weight incorporated into them to help them slide out a little better.
