Have had a few beers :P was just thinking about my last four sessions out .....blanks and the odd pin whiting!!!!...and before you blame Rodgededoger I picked some of the venue!......seems as if it isnt worth the bother. Now I live in Meath so its a bit of a hop to get to the usual marks but i have never seen it this bad before ( take it i only moved home a few years back) :? I tell you I might think twice about picking up the pole next winter.....and between diesel and bait and gear you might be better off in the boozer
At least theres skirt there
Any thoughts lads?

I haven't blanked in I don't know how long, I always fish at night, always have good bait and always fish two rods. One at distance with a large pennel hook setup and one in close with three hook flapper on with size 2's and 4's.
I think we had 35 fish between us (me and the brother) on Arklow South Beach last Sunday,k pins, lots of dabs a few dogs and a rockling, nothing wrong with that.
Nothing really sizeable enough coming in for the table if that's what you mean, but one lives in hope.

Last session I had was about 4 weeks ago in Kilcoole and it was the same buzz into fish all night.
I do agree that there's not a lot of size about apart from dogs, although Greystones South is the nuts for some nice straps and the like.
I don't have a car and live out in Tyrrelstown, so I don't get out as much as I used, when I lived in Ringsend I used to fish tight to Dublin, I've gotten the brother into it now and go further afield cos he has the jammer. One good tip I find is to ask Dave Tilly what's fishing at any time, he'll always put you on the fish if he can at all.

One other thing, the most successful rigs I've used have all had a combination of glow and floating beads on them, I've also had a lot of success with the bottom snood on the flapper being much longer than the others and picked up a lot of flats on it.
I've tried the rigs unblinged but haven't had as much success.

someone is jealous he couldn't find my house or maybe its because im the one who caught that pin in brittas
honestly though, the fishing will pick up in a few weeks oisin.
eoin beads only work ocassionaly for me, what kind of patterns do you use?
Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:54 pm
Hi Eric,
when you say what patterns, I've just been mixing up pink and green rubber glow beads with a few float beads on the snoods. I charge them up with a little UV light also.
I'll be selling the rigs shortly if you want some ;)
I find an immediate difference in the winter between glow and non glow traces, it brings the whiting on the feed a lot of the time.

yep , i usualy those little floaty beads on my snoods, helps get a little bit more movement on the bait when the tide is slackish, never thought of charging them   the luminous one must look like little squid to em, am i right in thinking some inverts glow in the dark :?: thanks for the reply
Wed Mar 26, 2008 3:06 pm
Dunno what you mean by "inverts". The rigs I've taken to using all use two way transparent match beads with the snood through the bead and then crimped on the end, I find they tangle a lot less and are much stealthier than the rigs using swivels, I also use red Amnesia as the rig body, dunno how relevant it all is, but it's seriously increased my hook up rates.

invertebrates, little squids,shrimps,baby jellies etc
Wed Mar 26, 2008 3:14 pm
Ah ok, not sure about that one, I think it's the same theory as the angler fish uses to catch his prey with his little glow in the dark dangly bit, I dunno if it sparks natural curiousity or mimics a bait fish or prey of some sort. One thing I'm pretty sure of is the effectiveness of it on rigs, although others will argue the opposite.......

If you looking for luminous floaty beads I can reccommend the beads below from http://www.Ultramarineuk.co.uk. The beauty about them is that you can add them to your rig at anytime by simply sliding them over the hook as shown below.
