Float fishing for sea trout...

Just wondering has anyone tried float fishing with sandeels for sea trout and if so how successful was the method compared to spinning? I know freelining live sandeels is deadly for the them, but thinking float fishing might work well in the spot Im thinking of trying......

James on a gravel/sea weed shore of an estuary we fish I've had limited success with float fished(clear bubble) mackerel strip, got a few small trout but changing back to lures (taz devils) provided more steady sport. This is only based on two sessions when I've tried it so its not really an exhaustive bit of research :roll:

In the sea, if the ground is clean, i'm finding that a long strip of mackerel fished in conjunction with a light slowly moving lead is particularly deadly, even if there are crabs kicking about its possible to keep the rig on the move and free of the little buggers. Fishing braid with this method is an advantage as you can really feel every bump and hollow in the sand but importantly your in instant contact with any interested fish and can hook most in the scissors, free lining sandeel or other fish baits with mono leads to too many deeply hooked fish and its something I'm not really comfortable with.

Should work there is a place here in kerry where they get white trout on mackeral strips too it would be an estuary so it should work. I'm thinking long flowing trace or some sort of sliding float setup. that sort of thing works for bass in fenit.
