going to treat myself to a new rod & reel, about 90% of my fishing is over clean ground so i am thinking about the 525 mag elite, seen one in a e bay shop for £119 is this to much? looking for advice on this reel good points/bad points...as for a rod, i am stuck, have looked at that many that i just cant make up my mind, looking for one at 13' or so. my usual cast is 1 1/2oz to 5oz. was looking at century ccc/viking surf bass, but I'm very interested in the zziplex, but witch model ??? would be great full for any information....

if you fish over clean ground you dont need a penn 525 you would be better with an abu 6500 c3ct mag elite for clean ground.lots of good rods out there century cccld and such you just have to get something that suits you so have a good look around.in the zziplex range some thing like a primo syncro would be fine.i have a brand new abu 6500 mag elite and a penn 525 for sale if your interested and i dont live far from you.cheers john

would also look at a 7ht or 7ht turbo for around £120 great reels.

I think the zziplex profile would fit the bill as wold the primo synchro.

I'm using a zippy profile matched with a mag 525.. great combination, and actually nicely balanced too, would recommend for clean beach, and will handle rougher ground if needed..

i use a conoflex source(3-5oz) or 'cannes bolongnaise' technofish 5000 (1-3oz) for my scratching over clean ground, after using abus for 6 years i can honestly say i love them to bits, though ive also used penns and daiwas and find them very good also. one thing about abus is they require a bit of maintenance to remain in good working order(rinse down, oil etc) where as a 525 can be simply chucked into the box at the end of session and is ready to go for the next one.

The Penn 525 really is over kill for clean ground fishing .

I bought a 525 super mag xtra last year and its now just lying in my fishing box, much prefer using my 2 7hts as they are much lighter in weight compared to the 525.

I have one 7ht matched with a Tip Tornado Sport , this combo is light well balanced and a great all round fishing outfit.

I have the other 7ht on a TDPK13M , which is a light setup again well balanced and ideal for clean ground fishing situations.

This year the Penn will only be used for Up tiding and the occasional Wrasse adventure in the heavy stuff!

That's just my opinion , you may have different preferences to rod and reel .

EBay is an ideal place to look if your purchasing.

Anyway happy rod and reel hunting!

the zziplex profile is a cracking rod and team it with a abu 6500 hi speed mag and you have a hell of a outfit.

The CCCLD is leaning towards the heavy side. It will do fine over clean ground, but might not have the bite detection that you are looking for. It more suited to clean / rough or doggie bashing and is a nice outfit when teamed with the 525. The 525 is a bit heavier than the 6500 all right, but the abuse it will take is just tremendous. It really is a reel that will last. If you are the kind of person that is happy enough to clean and strip your reels then the 6500 would be better ballanced for clean ground. The Abu's just need a little more TLC. That's why croppy boy doesn't use them

cheers lads for all the advice, i think the 525 would suit me ok, for i sometimes fish rough ground, have already been thinking about the zziplex profile and primo synchro witch some of yous have mentioned, as stevecrow said good for clean beach and can handle rougher ground if needed, so i think i will go for this set up, so thanks again for all the info; it was much appreciated :D

hi beachcaster sent you a pm...

I have 2 525's and just got a supermag extra and I love them, I also have a 6500 that I never use because of them, Its all a matter of preference the 525 will cope with anything rough or clean where as the abu is no good on rough, just my 2 cents....
