split cane beach rod- any body used one ?

Ive got my grandads old split cane beach caster was thinking of giving it a bash this year any one used one before?

used spilt cane pike rods in the past. good for nostalgia and then back in the press for all eternity.

used a cane fly rod before nothing wrong with them :wink:

probably best not to use it mate. split cane fly rods pass hands for crazy money if in good condition and auctioned the right way there are a lot of collectors out there, so you could try and sell it and buy a need rod with the proceeds.

You should try and get in touch with some online collector who deals in that kind of thing, if its in good nick and has makers name etc, it could be worth a few bob, they are not as sort after as the fly rods, but like samo said dont use it.....your not missing anything, some of the old timers could hit very good distances off the beach with those rods, but action-wise compared to our modern carbon rods, load one of those things and the tide could be out by the time the tip comes around :wink:

they are usually only valuable if they are pristine hardy rods or something, or rare prototypes. you can pick them up for next to nothing in various antique shops, junk shops and car boot sales over in the uk

its not in perfect nick bit varnish missing its two piece dont know what make it is got a pic of a man in a hat fishing on it and a number any one with any ideas of a make please let me know .

i got a really old salmon split cane fly rod for a present a good few years back. it has two different tips and its in pristine condition and id say you would get a right few bob for it.

so all i can say is to put it up and look after it :wink: or if you want ill take care of it for ye :lol:
