When you say surf rod I presume you mean lighter fishing on clean shallow surf beachs. I`ve an AA surf 3 to 5 oz for the job thats very light and easy to cast. It also can handler the weed on the surf beachs while not over powering small fish. Have had ray to 5lbs on it so far.

The surfblaster roughstuff is a rough ground rod and would not be suitable. Surfblaster is just the name of the mid-price line of their rod range.

That Penn Ruff Stuff is heavy and stiff, great for hauling doggies but heavy to hold if you're on the move.

Am from experience a surf rod is something that isnt much longer than 12 foot which is easy to hold in the surf etc while standing in the surf ie wading in the surf.......

What you should do is go check out online where you can get a good rod which has a low diameter butt and is nothing more than 12 foot long.

As thats all you need for surf fishing, I have been fishing the surf for years and thats all you need if your after sport fishing in the surf.

But if your fishing with a tripod and more gear such as a box etc maybe what the other posts recommend is what you need to get.

But surf fishing is short range fishing into the surf into the first 4 breakers but if there is plenty of weed about you might need another rod.

I have the mother of all surf rods I have the original Bob Moss surf rod which is like gold dust and would never part with it best all round rod I have ever used.

Best of luck in your search.
