Boo Hoo...fire in my garage.....Word of Warning to Y'all

Thu Jan 03, 2008 11:52 am

Suffice it to say that all my gear is now carbon - it it wasn't it is now. 10+ reels, 9 rods, beachbuddy, tackle box, rig wallet, plugs etc. etc. All toast. And guess who is not insured - me!. Why? Cos I had contents cover on my home and not my garage - which is part of the same building but apparently not. Even with the right policy in place one thing also to watch out for - if your house was worth X and your garage x/5 and you had 20000 contents cover only 4000 would cover your garage as they ratio it. I would have got stuck cos I'd moved back from England a disproportionate value was in the garage. So word of waring to all you tackle tarts, ring your brokers and find out exactly how you stand with what you keep in your garage.

Quarter, that sucks.... I have a fair bit of old gear that might tide you through for a while if you like. You're more than welcome to it, there's nothing fantastic in it but it will get you out anyhow. Drop me a PM if you like and we can sort something out.

How could you burn your reels? Are they made of metal or plastic????

What caused the fire?

Thu Jan 03, 2008 1:56 pm

They are made of Metal but let me assure you there is NOTHING left, Abu CS6500, Penn 525, piles of carbon - the lot of them.

When I can face going into the garage I'll post a piccy - but think blast furnace not bonfire.

I had loads of petrol (bike, mover, strimmer), plastics (tent, bike, mower) and rubber amongst lots of lubes etc. It was F****ing hot to say the least.

A fire is a cleansing thing. The last 20 years of my life was packed in boxes probably never to be opened until my children inherit! It's amazing the stuff you may think important that you never miss. But as many of you have said, no one got hurt, it's an opportunity to move forward not being hindered by what you already have. Roll on 2008! Does a charred Rappala count as a coalfish in my species count :D
