2007 review

Heres a couple of questions for 2007. Usually makes interesting reading

What was you least favorite session?
What was you favorite session?
What was your favorite fish?

Ambitions for 2008?

What was you least favorite session?

There were no brutal sessions this year. Far to many blanks but all were in the quest to get to grips with new marks. Blanking in foynes after loosing a very decent conger due to the line going when I should of changed the line after a rough ground session.

What was you favorite session?

All of the sessions where I caught the fish from below.

What was your favorite fish?

It could of been the early wee ray I caught the start of febuary caught at as far as I coulkd cast which I've put work into over the years or the 15lb conger which is the largest non-pier conger I've caught or the 11 1/2 lb huss which was a PB. But it has to the 16lb PB thornback I caught at distance back in may as this is something I have been workin for for a long time.

Ambitions for 2008?

Catch one of the fish up above but get a pic of me holding it. must get a wee tripod
really get to grips at casting and hit over to the 150m to the other side of the lake I practise at.
Catch some decent codling and bass.

my least favourite session was a couple of weeks ago, one of those days when the winds up in your face, its freezin cold and you blank. also manage to do my finger in that day :x

my favourite session was a night in july when i landed two small spotted rays off killiney beach, everything was right that night, mild, no wind and a rising tide.

my favourite species of the year was the humble flounder  believe it or not, spent the year chasing a fish over 40cm but to no avail, closely followed by smoothies and ray,my best fish this year was an estimated 16lb huss

ambitions for 2008, land a thornie off killiney, become a more constant match angler and qualify for the u-21 home international teamm of couses make some more SAI friends :D

humm, a difficult one as i don't remember many sessions.

worst session:

the whole of the home inters in youghal. the worst fishing i have ever experienced.

best session:

probably the gbsac outing in clew bay. it turned out to be a very funny session now i look back on it. and i still caught more fish that anyone else on that corner of the island.

favorite fish:

probably my 9lb huss which was a new pb and i got a nice pic out of it.

2008 ambitions:

i just want to get more quality fish. i have never been really good at catching decent fish, maybe i can turn my luck around. getting on the Irish team is not going to be my priority this year like it was last year(although the jacket is nice   )

Least Favourate session was not in the sea but spent about 3hrs flyfishing on a lake in the french alps and catching nothing and getting burnt to bits.

Best session was in at the hawk cliff/sorrento terrace getting 3 species on the fly and actually being able to get a fish in dublin of the shore.

Didnt catch any spectacular fish this year (not that I ever do :) )

Aims for 2008 get a lot more fishing sessions in both shore and boat and do some more bait fishing. Also get a bass on the fly.

Worst session was just a few weeks back, hadnt been out in months so i went for a handy one at the river for cod... had 3 birdies in a row,, pissin rain, windy,no fish and to boot i wasnt getting a good cast because i was weary of another birdy...nightmare

Best session was in clkonea with cortaz and teacher, an all day fishathon,, i didnt catch a fish all day (5 hours) but the night session i pulled in 5 bass, one of which was at least 10lb+, but johnathans dodgy scales weighed it in at 9.5lb

Best fish was above, or my first ray with steve and co in killary...great craic

worse session was all the local ones trying to get fish out of places with no fish - trying all conditions tides etc. with very little reward

best session was probably one in ballyryan where i took in a 14lb conger on a 9ft spinning rod - was with 2 mates - one a complete novice who got a 4lb pollack - we also got 4 more species in glorious april sunshine!

best fish the conger above or a flounder i got on a flyer for the first time in a comp in gurteen or a flounder on a beach with no fish just down from me

aims for 2008 - get more fish from local marks and cut down on the carbon footprint - well laziness really

and do far more spinning than last year

favourite session

hard to pic one, could be the day in april when i had 7 thornies up to a pb of above 10lbs, or the night i had 7 bass to 7lbs, or possibly the day i had 8 huss including 3 over 8 lbs....or the early morning bass session in september when i had 3 bass on the fly (i know nothing spectacular but i represented all that is good about fishing)......all great sessions but i think it would be the night session where i had 2 double figure huss in a force 7 south westerly and horizontal rain...had a grin on my face for 2 days after that....

least favourite session

funny one this. i would be the 7/707 when i lost a possible double figure bass on the fly...never felt so gutted in my whole angling career..funny thing is that driving home that evening ive never felt so motivated to catch a specific fish in my life..has definately helped set my goals for next year.

favourite fish

a 2 lb mullet i took in september while fly fishing. had cast out a freshly tied bread fly which floated nicely on the surface to a mullet which had been cruising along the surface sipping down bits of bread. he turned and inhaled my offering, i struck and he then took off and ran about 4 yards before i could turn him...5 minutes later i had him netted...definately my idea of a dream mullet catch; choose the fish, hook the fish, land the fish Perfect!!!1

goals for 2008

to catch a certain bass  , also try catch a few more double figure conger, do alot more fishing for wrasse, try and improve my huss pb (anual goal!!) try and find some new ray marks and get a speciman mullet on the fly
