Dublin lug: 15 years on & Ennereiley

Fri Dec 28, 2007 9:43 pm

As an emigrant back in town for the Xmas hols only, i've got bitten by the strong urge to escape and chuck leads and worms at the codling for a night again. I used to dig lug in the shadow of the Poolbeg power station or off the Sandymount baths: are there any left in these spots?

I used to go to Kilcoole or Killoughter for the fishing (road to latter would wreck a car in those days), but it looks like Ennereiley is the spot now. Where can I park and get access to that beach?

Thanks...

you can still dig lug down at poolbeg ,if you want cod their are a few spots along annariely worth a shot in fact if they are on one spot normally the others produce as well ,kilcoole will throw up a few also if the surfs up ,its still a bit early for steady fishing yet but saying that a few bass are still showing, long casts usually put you past the fish 20 feet out to 50 yards is normally plenty if its realy rough try just in front of the third breaker or just behind it
good luck
dodger :D
p.s squid was good last week for the whiting on its own hooked once on a size 2 hook

take the turn off the road at the Widow Scanlon's pub, towards Brittas Bay. Drive towards the sea, and then at the T-junction take the right and follow the road for a couple of miles, over the bridge, and you'll see a sign for fishing on the left, You can park there too.

Thanks everyone: I got some lug yesterday morning and went down to the beach beside Pennycomequick bridge last night from six to midnight. There were plenty of small whiting, dabs and flounders stealing the bait, but nothing longer than 10 inches. I guess it probably was too calm, too mild and too small a tide.

It's back to blighty in the morning, unfortunately, but it was excellent to get out for the night: thanks again.
