East Cork, where to fish?

Mon Nov 01, 2004 8:55 pm

Planning a trip to East Cork tomorrow night, Tuesday, for a spot of beachery. Garryvoe is the favourite at the moment but does anybody know what marks are fishing well. I'm hoping to entice some codling my way.

Declan,

I have been away for a little while, but have heard that some decent codling (2-3lb) are been caught at Ballywilling and Ballycreannan. If you decide to fish Ballycreannan do so at the very left of the beach as the water is a bit deeper and the rocks attract the fish. You have a chance of getting a decent Bass as well. Use big baits and hooks as it should pick out the better fish and avoid the lots of small coddling which are around. Lug, mackeral will work along with crab. Youghal is full of minature coddling at present if only they were around in a few years time, I am always anticipating a decent run of coddling when I see these little blighters but it never materializes as the poor buggers never get a chance due to commerical pressures.

A good Cod run is showing at greystones and the gannons at the moment. Try a Peeler crab cocktail with Mackerel or Mussell on a Pennell.

George,

if it is the Dublin Greystones you are referring to then it's a bit far away for me  . Anyway I have been out to Ballinwilling already, caught sod all, lost a fair bit of gear and returned everso mad :x (see my report on the reports thread for Cork).

Thanks for the response.
