I want to catch plaice, dabs and flounders or turbot ? in and around Dingle and/or Waterville. I have looked at the mark section here and there appears plenty of places. Anyone fished any of them recently ?

Hi Corker
Fished North Kerry round Fenit, earlier this year. Most productive bait/tackle combo for flatties seemed to be sandeel whipped onto 2/3-hook paternoster rigs with size 1 hooks. We caught some decent size flounder like this and that was back in April. The East coast ragworm we brought with us didn't catch anything despite surviving the long journey from Dublin so maybe sandeel is the way to go. As for Dingle in November, well that could be a different story, but I'd still pack plenty of frozen sandeel.

corker,
black lug tipped with a sliver of mackeral is the best bait for most flatties down here.I have caught them with sandeel and mackeral strips aswell though.A bit of distance may be required for the plaice and turbot but the dabs and flounder are very close in.3 hook paternoster, size 1 hooks and plenty of beads.Hope this helps.

As BigCol says, the best bait for flats from the Dingle surf beaches in my experience is a small section of black lug, tipped with 4 maddies and a thin strip of fresh mackerel belly. This combination will take most of the other resident species too, including bass. Size 2 hooks are best to hook the maddies - Kamasan 940's are strong enough to land a decent fish with care. Peeler is better in the estuaries.
